Stepping Stones Lesson Three

2. Audio Practice

Listen to one line of the story, and then repeat it aloud. Follow the characters in the text as you listen--each character corresponds to one syllable. Practice until you can recite the line from memory. Then go on to the next line. Again, don't worry about the meaning for now.

朝	三	暮	四
zhāo	sān	mù	sì

有	一	个	道	士
yǒu	yí	gè	dào	shì

养	了	几	只	猴	子,
yǎng	le	jǐ	zhī	hóu	zi,

猴	子	每	天	要	吃	很	多	食	物。
hóu	zi	měi	tiān	yào	chī	hěn	duō	shí	wù。

有	一	天，
yǒu	yì	tiān,

道	士	对	猴	子	说：
dào	shì	duì	hóu	zi	shuō:

“以	后	每	天	早	上
“yǐ	hòu	měi	tiān	zǎo	shàng

每	只	猴	子
měi	zhī	hóu	zi

给	三	个	栗	子，
gěi	sān	gè	lì	zi,

晚	上	给	四	个	栗	子。
wǎn	shàng	gěi	sì	gè	lì	zi。

”猴	子	听	了	很	生	气，
hóu	zi	tīng	le	hěn	shēng	qì,

于	是	道	士	说：
yú	shì	dào	shì	shuō:

“那	就	每	天	早	上
“nà	jiù	měi	tiān	zǎo	shàng

给	四	个	栗	子,
gěi	sì	gè	lì	zi,

晚	上	给	三	个	栗	子。
wǎn	shàng	gěi	sān	gè	lì	zi。

猴	子	一	听
hóu	zi	yī	tīng

早	上	多	了	一	个	栗	子
zǎo	shàng	duō	le	yí	gè	lì	zi

就	高	兴	了。
jiù	gāo	xìng	le。

Once you have memorized each line of the story, you are ready to go on to the next step.
