Stepping Stones Lesson Nine

2. Audio Practice

Listen to one line of the story, and then repeat it aloud. Follow the characters in the text as you listen--each character corresponds to one syllable. Practice until you can recite the line from memory. Then go on to the next line. Again, don't worry about the meaning for now.

以	牙	还	牙
Yǐ	yá	huán	yá

孔	融	小	时	候
Kong	Rong	xiǎo	shí	hou

便	聪	明	过	人，
biàn	cōng	ming	guò	rén，

好	些	有	才	学	的	大	官
hǎo	xiē	yǒu	cái	xué	de	dà	guān

都	难	不	倒	他。
dōu	nán	bu	dǎo	ta.

有	一	次，
yǒu	yí	cì,

很	多	人	都	当	着
hěn	duō	rén	dōu	dāng	zhe

孔	融	的	面	夸	他，
Kong	Rong	de	miàn	kuā	tā,

但	有	一	个	大	官	却	说:
dàn	yǒu	yí	gè	dà	guān	què	shuō:"

小	时	候	聪	明	的	人，
xiǎo	shí	hou	cōng	ming	de	rén,

长	大	以	后
zhǎng	dà	yǐ	hòu

不	一	定	怎	么	样。”
bù	yí	ding	zèn	me	yàng."

孔	融	以	牙	还	牙	地	说:
Kong	Rong	yǐ	yá	huán	yá	de	shuō:"

大	人	小	的	时	候，
dà	rén	xiǎo	de	shí	hou,

想	必	也	是	很	聪	明	的。”
xiǎng	bì	yě	shì	hěn	cōng	míng	de."
